Hot off a Council of Fashion Designers of America award and a collaboration with Gap, Alexander Wang decided to celebrate the all American varsity girl for his Spring 2010 collection. The collection featured classic, investment clothing mixed with loud, college varsity inspired pieces, which together, looked as if a tornado had whipped through a football change room. “We want to create clothes that are timeless and classic. Our girl wants investment pieces.” said Wang. Some of my favourite pieces from the collection include boxy laced leather shorts, innovative outerwear, twists on classic gray sweaters, and laced zipper shoes. Wang explained that these statement pieces should easily incorporate into a girl’s wardrobe, and give an outfit a bold flash of style. With hair and makeup inspired by a 70s Brooke Shields rounding out the mix, the collection was very young, but in a way that older woman could wear without coming across as pretentious. Check out some of my favourite looks from the collection, and a video after the jump!
