Models and rock stars go hand in hand, but those hands are usually spotted canoodling together at Boom Boom Room, or on a yacht on the French Riviera, or maybe a TriBeCa penthouse, not at a Grace Coddington styled Vogue photoshoot. In the latest issue of Vogue, Steven Meisel shot classic Russian beauty Sasha Pivovarova alongside many modern indie-rockers, creating a dichotomy comparable to the recent reinventions of traditional European fashion houses that Sasha modeled clothes from. Traditional skills mixed with youthful vibrancy create something spectacular, whether in music or fashion. Musicians including Mika, Vampire Weekend, The Horrors, Chester French, Beirut, and MGMT took the stage along with Sasha, modeling clothes from Givenchy, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Balmain, Burberry, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few. The editorial also includes short bios of the recently reinvented design houses, and the designers who helmed the brands. “Already Famous” gave American Vogue a hot shot of hip, and provided a fresh breath of air to the magazine, often regarded as “your Grandmother’s Vogue”, next to hipper French and Italian Vogues.
