Usually,
Vogue Italia is applauded for not selling out, and not putting celebrities on the cover of their magazines. The latter is true, for the September issue of the Italian fashion bible. The cover shot, photographed by
Steven Meisel, featuring models
Sasha Pivovarova and
Ash Stymest has fashion insiders asking "Why?" Usually when models are featured on the cover, the results are incredible but no one is too sure why this shot was chosen as the cover. The cover caption "
unexpected" sums up perfectly my response to the cover. It was unexpected that Ash, the new and
relatively unheard of male model was featured on the cover. It was also unexpected that Sasha would look like a couture bag lady, or that the Vogue title would be multi-coloured. I am all for models on the covers of magazines, but I would have much
prefered Rihanna on the cover.
Steven Klein shot
Rihanna in today's most extreme couture for a
supplement cover inside, but I would much prefer it as the real cover. Which cover do you prefer? See
Rihanna's cover, and post your response, after the jump!
